Finding a cat or a litter of kittens can be stressful, but the right first steps make all the difference. Use the flowcharts below as a quick reference, and reach out to us if you’re unsure.

If you found an adult cat

Many outdoor cats are not lost — they are community cats or owned cats who spend time outside. Look for an ear tip (a sign the cat is part of a managed colony), scan for a microchip if possible, and avoid removing a healthy cat from its territory unless it’s in danger.

If you found kittens

Often the best thing you can do for very young kittens is to wait and watchfor the mother — she is their best chance at survival. A mom cat may be away hunting or moving her litter. Intervene right away only if the kittens are in immediate danger or clearly sick, injured, or abandoned.
